So Angus and I made the trek out to Roslyn yesterday to check out the dogcart and scooter races. It was all new to me. The shear number of dogs, the noise, barking howling, the excitement. Angus was ready to go as soon as we got there, and I think a bit dissapointed he didn't get a chance to pull, next time buddy.
It was great to see the dogs and puppies and interesting to see the wide range of vehicles that dogs can pull. From the heaviest tank like four wheeled box carts to sleek three wheeled versions to the newer two wheeled "scooters" Oddly the dogs seemed unhampered by the size of the vehicle they were pulling. Must be all in the training. Mushing atleast at this venue is not much of a spectator sport. So if I go again it will be as a competitor.
I met a ten your old who was competing for the first time, she'd had her scooter a month! Way to get out there and do it.
I was validated by the fact that about 50% of the teams went the wrong way at the first chance they got and had to be dragged back onto course by guides. Only one team dumped their driver completely and took off and had to be chased down by a motorized vehicle.
I met a very nice couple from Oregon who told me about a travelling sport called Dock diving. Were you compete to see how far your dog can fling himself off a dock after a ball. Sounds like a blast. I'll post here if something like this is coming to Seattle this summer.
I didn't give too many dog massages but I saw lots of dogs who could benefit and noticed the owners systematically working the dogs over after they returned from the run.
All in all a very educational day.
